The previous post on this blog was published back in October, 2019. It was an honest account on my enthusiasm about Mapillary, a startup I was working for. It is now the middle of Summer in 2020, around 8 months have passed, let’s see what has changed!
First of all, there was Covid-19, a global pandemic sweeping across the globe. When it arrived in Sweden, we’d just finished moving to a house in the countryside. Good reason for that is because our family is growing: we’re expecting our third child due in August.
On top of everything, last week Mapillary announced that it has joined Facebook. Does this mean that I’ll be part of Facebook? Seeing an acquisition from the trenches is a unique experience. It’s actually a long and complicated development process with lots of emotional highs and lows. I think our whole team collectively and personally went through a lot. But every process has a binary outcome and my outcome is that no, I won’t be continuing my professional journey with them. I wish the continuing team all the best, they truly deserve it.
What’s next for me? I don’t know yet. I’ll be enjoying gardening and family life as much as I can during the Summer. In the meantime I’ll be on the lookout for either a remote designer role or something static in the Coppenhagen/Malmö region. I have a portfolio website ready and an updated LinkedIn page.
